Otherwise, let's jump to the most common questions by order of popularity:
Let's get started.
How do I cancel My Short Term policy?
An email to the carrier with request to cancel will suffice.
You need to include your policy # in the email.
We recommend sending the request about 2 weeks prior to the next 30 day
block of coverage.
This way, you avoid the refund process.
Ultimately, you can request the cancellation up to the last day of the
current 30 day period.
Do I have to take it for 90 or 364 days?
No.
The 90 or 364 days is the maximum duration you can have policy.
You can always cancel month to month with short term health plans.
Please see above for how to cancel.
You can find out more
how the new short term
health plans work here.
You can continue to keep the policy up to the maximum period (90 or 364
day with Trump expansion).
Are the rates quoted for the full period or monthly?
The rates quoted are monthly.
There may also be a one time application fee (not ours, the carriers).
Is there a penalty if I get short term?
The penalty for not having ACA or Obamacare coverage will be in effect
through 2018.
It's scheduled to disappear in 2019 and beyond.
What if I answer "yes" to one of the health history
questions?
Usually, we're unable to enroll in short term if we answer "yes" to a
health history question.
Make to answer honestly on the application.
Otherwise, they may rescind the coverage which defeats the purpose of getting
it!
Check with us for other options if we can't answer "no" to all the questions
by email.
Can I get less than 30 days of coverage?
30 days is the minimum amount of coverage available through short term.
What is the maximum amount of coverage I can get?
The old short term plans have a maximum duration of 90 days (3 x 30 days)
The new Trump expansion will allow up to 364 days continuously under one
policy.
You may be able to renew this up to 3 years.
Should I get short term or Cobra/Obamacare?
This is a big question.
Short term is very different from Obamacare.
We've written an extensive article
Obamacare versus
Trump short term health plans.

email.
Do I get PPO discounts when meeting short term
deductible?
Yes. For covered benefits, in-network, you'll be able to take advantage of
the PPO discount.
On average, this is usually 30-60%.
How does deductible and max out of pocket work?
Generally speaking (please see brochure through
short term
quote), you add the deductible and max out of pocket for your total exposure
up to policy max.
For example:
If you have a $2500 deductible and a $5000 max with a 50/50 split"
You pay the first $2500 (deductible)
You then start paying 50% of remaining eligible charges until you hit another
$5000.
Your exposure for a $50K hospital bill (in-network, covered benefits) would
then be $7500.

Are prescriptions covered?
With short term plans, it depends on where you're getting them from:
- In-patient (in hospital or facility setting) - generally covered per
plan benefits
- Out-patient (pharmacy) - generally not covered
Short term plans are catastrophic in nature.
They're designed to cover the big bill.
Is Maternity covered?
Maternity is not covered with short term plans.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Pre-existing conditions are not covered by short term plans.
Is Mental Health covered?
Mental health and substance abuse are not covered by short term health plans.
When can we enroll in short term? Open Enrollment?
Anytime during the year.
We can usually get an effective date as early midnight following online
enrollment.
